Graduate Internship Training
Future Matters Foundation partners with accredited graduate programs to provide supervised practicum and internship opportunities for master’s-level mental health interns.
Under the supervision of experienced licensed clinicians, interns gain meaningful clinical experience through secure telehealth and limited in-person services while helping expand access to mental health care for uninsured and underserved communities.
What Interns Gain Through Our Program
Future Matters Foundation provides a structured clinical training experience designed to prepare master’s-level mental health interns for professional practice and future licensure.
Under the supervision of experienced licensed clinicians, interns build clinical confidence through direct client care, evidence-based practice, documentation, treatment planning, ethical decision-making, and interdisciplinary collaboration while serving diverse communities through secure telehealth and in-person services.
Throughout the program, interns gain hands-on experience in the following areas:
Clinical Assessment & Treatment Planning
Interns develop the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to assess client needs, understand presenting concerns, formulate diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans.
Training includes:
* Client triage and referral processes
* Intake procedures and clinical interviewing
* Identifying presenting concerns, client strengths, and treatment needs
* Selecting, administering, scoring, and interpreting evidence-based clinical assessments and inventories
* Completing Comprehensive Clinical Assessments (CCAs)
* Developing case conceptualizations and diagnostic formulations
* Conducting diagnostic evaluations using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
* Collaboratively developing individualized treatment plans with measurable treatment goals
Skills & Clinical Practice
Interns receive supervised clinical experience while developing evidence-based skills across diverse client populations and service settings.
Training includes:
* Providing individual counseling using evidence-based therapeutic interventions
* Create, promote and facilitating (open/close) group counseling using evidence-based therapeutic approaches
* Supporting continuity of care through care coordination, referrals, and community resource connections
* Delivering services through secure telehealth and in-person settings
* Adapting clinical interventions to meet clients’ unique needs across various service delivery formats
Clinical Documentation & Professional Practice
Interns learn to maintain accurate, ethical, and compliant clinical documentation consistent with professional standards, legal requirements, and organizational policies.
Training includes documentation of:
* Client intake and onboarding documentation, including required forms and paperwork completed prior to initiating services (e.g., consent forms, intake forms, releases of information, and other required clinical documents)
* Intake assessments
* Comprehensive Clinical Assessments (CCAs)
* Treatment plans
* Progress notes and other clinical service documentation
* Non-billable communication notes
* Discharge summaries, discharge letters, and related documentation
Interns also gain experience with documentation standards, confidentiality requirements, regulatory compliance, and professional record-keeping practices.
Ethics, Supervision & Professional Development
Professional growth is fostered through ongoing supervision, mentorship, constructive feedback, and collaborative learning.
Training includes:
* Ethical decision-making and professional standards
* Individual and/or group clinical supervision
* Case consultation and interdisciplinary collaboration
* Professional communication, therapeutic boundaries, and effective therapeutic relationships
* Culturally responsive, culturally informed, and inclusive care
* Reflective practice and lifelong professional development
Preparing Future Mental Health Professionals
Through this comprehensive clinical training experience, interns develop the knowledge, clinical skills, professional judgment, and ethical competencies necessary to provide high-quality mental health services and confidently progress toward professional licensure.
Partnering With Accredited Universities
Future Matters Foundation collaborates with graduate mental health programs, including clinical mental health counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, and other behavioral health disciplines, to provide structured practicum and internship placements that support student learning and meet university training requirements.
Through these partnerships, students receive meaningful clinical training experiences that integrate academic preparation with supervised real-world practice, helping them develop the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed for professional growth and future licensure.
